Things to Know Before you Buy
For a little bit more, a screening tympanometer with additional capabilities may be worth considering
The Otowave 102-1 is a hand-held tympanometer and printer with 226 Hz probe tone and ipsi reflex capabilities at 1000 Hz only. This version runs on AA batteries or AA rechargeable batteries. For about $400 more, the Resonance r16m-LITE-P is a touch screen tympanometer and printer with 226 and 1000 Hz probe tones. The 1000 Hz probe tone is applicable to pediatric patients 6 months of age or younger. In addition, the Resonance r16m-LITE-P offers ipsilateral acoustic reflex capabilities for the standard frequencies of 0.5, 1 2 and 4 kHz and is rechargeable. Oaktree also manages all service and support for Resonance, including calibration, which will make your life easier in the long run.
Two models of the Otowave are available; make most informed decision by reading this
Two models of the Otowave include the 102-1 and the 102-4. Oaktree Products offers both models with and without a printer (e.g. 102-1 vs 102-1NP where "NP" indicates "no printer"). Both the Otowave 102-1 and Otowave 102-4 operate on 4 AA batteries or 4 rechargeable NiHM batteries. Both offer tympanometry with the standard 226 Hz probe tone. Both offer ipsilateral acoustic reflexes.
The main difference is the number of frequencies available for ispi acoustic reflex testing. The Otowave 102-1 offers ipsi acoustic reflexes at 1000 Hz only, whereas the Otowave 102-4 offers ipsi acoustic reflexes at 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 Hz. The other difference is the Otowave 102-4 is also available with a built-in rechargeable NiMH battery and docking station (see item 102-C).
In summary, there are two models of the Otowave available in 6 different SKUS:
